Jensens chosen as Peach Days Grand Marshalls

Bertley and Thelma Jensen have been chosen as the Grand Marshalls for the Ferron Peach Days.
The Jensen’s have been residents of Ferron for more than 45 years. Bert was born and raised in Castle Dale, where his ancestors were some of the first settlers. Thelma was born and raised in Cleveland. Her family was also one of the first settlers in the area.
Family has always been very important to the Jensen’s; they have three children, Sidney Jensen of Castle Dale, Sheree Pollitz of Salt Lake and Adele Justice of Ferron. They have 21 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren (and one on the way). Bert and Thelma have also raised many foster children, passing this legacy on to their own.
Whether they have been part of their biological family or not, kids in the Jensen home are loved and treated just as if they are. When their children were young, the family spent a lot of time together, riding horses or on outings in the mountains. Bert has been active in the community as a scout leader and teacher of hunter safety. For years he worked as a school custodian and bus driver. While working for the school, he spent countless hours making playground equipment for the school, making Ferron Elementary one of the most fun places to play.
He has been a good friend to local youth who through the years have called him Mr. Bertley. For many years he was one of the few men around who would shoe horses. He traveled throughout the county shoeing horses with his wife or one of his children by his side, holding the rope or handing him tools.
Thelma became known to many as Aunt Thelma. She tended children in her home for many years. She particularly enjoyed tending children for the school teachers and came to love all the kids as her own. It didn’t matter who needed special attention, her arms were always ready to hold several children at a time.
Bert and Thelma have always had a garden and shared the produce with neighbors and friends. Bert has grown some of the largest tomatoes and potatoes that local residents have seen. In years past he has entered his produce in the Peach Day exhibits and enjoyed showing off his harvest wherever he goes. In later years Bert has enjoyed wood working and carving.
In fact, if you have happened to make his acquaintance or stop by their home, you may be the owner of a small pair of hand carved boots or shoes that he has given away. Once you meet the Jensen’s you are considered their friend, which is one of the reasons Ferron City is proud to honor them as the Grand Marshall’s of Peach Days.

Little Miss Peach Blossom

The Little Miss Peach Blossom Pageant was held Aug. 30 at Emery High School and 22 youth took part, dancing, singing and smiling (sometimes shyly) for an audience of friends and family. With a theme of “There’s No Place Like Home” pageant directors Leigh Bloomer and Kandi Hess wanted to thank the contestants and their parents for taking part in the pageant this year. Crowned Miss Peach Blossom for 2007 were: Saylor Emma Lynn Jackson (3-4 year olds); Kelsey McKenna Hulse (5-6 year olds); Corben Leigh Bloomer (7-8 year olds); Sarah Olivia Swasey (9-10 year olds); Kacelyn Delores Harris, (11-12 year olds).
