Families R First

The Emery County Healthy Family Coalition will host a family education night “Families R First” at Emery High School on Sept. 12. The event is designed to provide local youth and families the opportunity to explore the many support programs and facilities that are available in the area.
There will be a series of breakout sessions dealing with issues that youth and families face every day. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with a free dinner catered by Food Ranch Catering. Breakout sessions begin at 6:45 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

4th Annual Castle Valley Youth Leadership Summit

Calling all youth ages 14-18 from all counties. Register for the Castle Valley Youth Leadership Summit “Your Attitude is Your Window to the World.” This fun one day event is held at Emery High School on Sept. 22. Check in at 8:30 a.m. with many choices of informative workshops, games, service projects, a dance and grand prize of a computer or Ipod.
The speaker this year will be Nicole Nolton, who is a survivor of the Columbine High School shootings. The general public is invited to hear her speak at 7 p.m. at the Emery High auditorium.
As part of the summit the youth have a service project. This year’s project will be one that will help the people of Emery County. The sheriff’s office is in need of Comfort Bags to help children. These bags are kept in the trunk of the deputy’s cars and are used on the scene of accidents, removal of children from homes and other stressful times for children. To complete the Comfort Bags the youth city councils need the following items, all of which must be new and unused: 25 coloring or activity books; 25 small boxes of colored pencils and sharpeners; 25 gallon sized bags; 25 stuffed animals; 25 card games (travel size); 25 small fleece blankets or one yard of fleece fabric. You may make your donation to your local city hall.

Utah Power Credit Union
Organizes Miners’ Fund Raising Efforts

Utah Power Credit Union will be working with the Huntington City Mayor’s office to help coordinate fundraising efforts for the families of the trapped miners and rescue crews in the Crandall Canyon mine. Utah Power Credit Union, with an office in Huntington and a significant membership base in Carbon and Emery Counties, will be donating $5,000 to begin fundraising efforts. “These miners are not only our members, they are our friends. They are our community and we will do everything we can to help to support them,” says Kaylene Pearson, Utah Power Credit Union Huntington Branch Manager. ATV and Golf Adventure

Emery County and Utah State Parks is sponsoring the Millsite Front 9, Green River Back 9 Golf and ATV Adventure on Sept. 28-30. On Sept. 28 participants will play nine holes of golf at Millsite Golf Course and camp overnight at Millsite State Park. On Sept. 29 participants will take a 100 mile ATV ride from Ferron to Green River State Park. Trucks and trailers for your ATVs will be moved by the Emery County Sheriff;s Office and Posse members to Green River State Park.
Once in Green River participants will camp overnight at Green River State Park and on Sept. 30 will have the opportunity to play nine holes of golf at Green River Golf Course. The cost for the event is $80 for two nights of camping and the shuttle of one vehicle from Millsite to Green River and $30 for 18 holes of golfing per person. This adventure is limited to 60 ATVs. Memorial Concert

The Utah Symphony will hold a Memorial Concert at Emery High School on Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. Everyone is invited to share in the joy and comfort of beautiful music. No donations will be accepted.

Soldiers Addresses Needed

American Legion Auxiliary #42 of Ferron is looking for addresses from people of Emery County that have loved ones serving our country in a war zone such as Iraq or Afghanistan.
The Legion has a program called “Operation Home Support” which sends packages to soldiers, but we need help from Emery County Residents with the name and addresses of your loved ones that are serving.
They need packages from “Operation Home Support” to let them know they aren’t forgotten and that we care and we support them. Please contact us if you have a family member serving. Call Jan Hess 384-2753 or Dixie Swasey at 384-3172.

Bible Study
