Jay Marx

PRICE-Jay L. Marx, age 90, died August 22, 2007 in Price.

Born March 24, 1917 in Mt. Pleasant, Utah the fifth of twelve children to Alvin LeRoy and Wayne Cloward Marx.

Married Margherete Monnet in 1941 and they were blessed with a wonderful daughter, Shirley and her caring and loving husband Ted.

Jay and his brother, Floyd were the founders and owners of the Carbon Emery Animal By- Products and Metal Savage Company for many years. He was an avid fisherman, he loved golfing, bowling and gardening.

Jay was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Served in the US Army during WW II. He was a life member of the Moose Lodge and Price Elk’s Lodge # 1550. Jay will be missed by his family, friends, and his golfing and fishing buddies. Survived by his wife, Margherete; daughter, Shirley (Ted) Marakis; brother, Floyd Marx; sisters, Pauline (Murray) Shorts, Maxine (James) Rinehart; three sisters-in-law, Nadine, Dorothy and Glenna Marx; and many loving nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Blain, Kenneth, Clyde, Earl and Verdell Marx; and sisters, Eloise World, Lucille Marx, and Ada Oakden.

Funeral service was August 27, 2007 at Mitchell Funeral Home. Interment was in Price City Cemetery.

Gail Wilhelm Haut
(1917-2007)

PRICE - Gail W. Haut, MD, loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and dedicated physician passed away on August 19, 2007, at age 90 in Bakersfield, California.

Gail was born on June 17, 1917, in Manhattan in New York City, NY as the only child of Gustav and Eva Haut. He grew up in Manhattan and the Bronx, attending Peter Stuyvesant High School where he became intrigued with the study of science, especially biology and chemistry. Following his undergraduate work at Columbia University, Gail obtained his MD from the Long Island School of Medicine. In the midst of WWII Gail married Margaret Silbernagel on July 25, 1942, and was called to active military duty later that year.

During his tour of duty with the Army, Gail was sent to China where one of his assignments was to accompany an interpreter by horseback along the Indo-Chinese border to oversee the administration of vaccine to Chinese troops. During his service in the army, Gail rose from the rank of lieutenant to captain and ultimately to major. While he was in China, his first son, David, was born. After his return to the US in 1945, Gail lived in the New York-New Jersey area and trained to specialize in the field of radiology. His daughter, Virginia, was born during this time.
In 1952, Gail and Margaret moved to eastern Utah where he was the only radiologist in the area for 15 years. Eventually they would add three more children to the family while Gail worked at the regional hospital in Price, Utah. For a time, he served as chief of staff at the Price Hospital and is credited with leading that hospital to accreditation and the high standard of medical care that accompanied such certification.

Motivated to learn more in the field of radiology and nuclear medicine, Gail moved his family again in 1966, this time to Minnesota where he served on the faculty of the University of Minnesota’s School of Medicine. In 1970, Gail moved his family one last time to Bakersfield where he worked at Mercy Hospital (Truxtun Ave.) as a radiologist for over 20 years.
While living in Bakersfield, Gail was a founding member of the Kern County Right to Life Committee in 1970 and served on the board for several years. He also served on the board for the Kern County Sunday School Association for many years and was a member of both Laurelglen Bible Church and Kern City Community Church.

Gail is survived by his wife of 65 years, Margaret; his five children, son, David, Hawaii; daughter, Ginger ( Cal Evans) Rhode, Sandy, Utah; son, Andrew( Debbie)Haut, Bakersfield, California; daughter, Debbie (Joe) Castaneda, Layton, Utah; son, John, Monrovia, California; eleven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; eight nieces and nephews.

He will be remembered for his generous and ever-cheerful nature and an endless supply of jokes and puns. His children and grandchildren will remember him as a man who lived his faith.
Graveside service, Friday, August 24,2007, 1:30 p.m. Price City Cemetery, Price, Utah. Family will gather at Mitchell Funeral Home at 1:00 p.m.

A Memorial service will be held Sept. 15, 2007, 11 a.m. at the Kern City Community Church in the Kern City Town Hall in Bakersfield, California. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home of Price.

Verna Thomilson

GREEN RIVER-Verna Luella Louise Holtzen Thomilson, age 88, passed away Saturday August 18, 2007 in Green River, Utah.

She was born in Davenport, Nebraska on June 12, 1919.

Met her husband, Leland Thomilson in Idaho and married after WWII on December 12, 1945. A career in civil service moved them to Colorado, Kansas, Georgia, North Carolina, and Illinois and finally retired in Oregon in 1978. After 47 years of marriage, Lee passed away on July 19, 1992. Then in 1998 Verna moved to Arizona near her daughter and in 2006 she moved once more to Utah with her daughter.

An avid gardener, Verna always had summer gardens and beautiful flowers and canned goods for winter. She was a lifelong member of the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church.
She provided a loving, Christian home to her surviving two children, Louis Thomilson and JoAnn Williams. She is also survived by two grandchildren.

The youngest daughter of Louis and Adelheid Holtzen, Verna is preceded in death by her three brothers, Edwin, Martin and Walter Holtzen; four sisters, Alma Bohling, Hulda Schnachenberg, Esther Wittrock, and Alvina Pubanz; a generation has passed away.

A private memorial will be held and she will rest with her Lee in Eugene, Ore., until Jesus gives them both resurrected bodies to abide in heaven. She will be missed by her children but welcomed by God.
