Miss Emery Crowned

Miss Emery County was crowned during the Miss Emery County Pageant on July 14.
Five contestants competed in the Miss Emery County Scholarship Pageant in a variety of categories intended to display their talent, intelligence and beauty.

Royd Hatt of Green River was the Master of Ceremonies for the pageant where Tawny Conder, Ashlin White, Karrie Johansen, Lacey Branson and Shannon Adison competed for the crown and scholarship awards presented to the queen.

The Miss Emery County Scholarship Pageant is scored on the Miss America scoring system. Judges Veronica Grgich, Calvin Jones, BethAnn Durfey, Tiffany Edwards and Bret Pope scored the contestants giving 25 percent of the score to the presentation and community service interview; 35 percent of the score to artistic expression in talent; 15 percent to lifestyle and fitness in swimsuit; 20 percent to presence and poise in evening wear and 5 percent to an on-stage question.

Throughout the pageant the crowd of well-wishers were entertained by not only the contestants but by a variety of other groups and entertainers, including a dance by Little Miss Emery Allyson Woolsey and Miss Emery 2006, Kristine Johansen. The Canyon View Junior High Cheerleaders, under the director of Becky Bunnell performed and Tasha Larsen and Kaylee VanWagoner sang. Royd Hatt wowed the audience with a robot inspired dance performance of his own and dancers from Brenda Kalatzes dance studio tapped to a variety of tunes.

After a farewell walk by Kristine Johansen the winner of the Miss Emery Scholarship Pageant was announced as Karrie Johansen, the daughter of Nathan Johansen and Kristine’s sister.
Lacey Branson was named First Attendant.
