Bikers make kids’ day at community center

Judi Bishop

The sound of thunder rolling could be heard approaching Green River motorcycles riders from Bikers Against Child Abuse arrived at the Community Center, Boys/Girls Club to complete a half pipe for the skateboarders.
Ted and Allison Allen also pulled in with a trailer loaded with product for the project which had been donated by Sutherlands lumber so it could be completed for youth.

A carnival atmosphere had been created for all to enjoy while watching the work progress. Many of the members from B.A.C.A., when not wielding a hammer, glue gun or drill, were helping with the games that the youth could participate in. Children could enter the putting contest, the pool tournament or just have fun and be carefree for the day.

“When they said thank you to me for coming down and helping do this, I said no, thank you for allowing us the privilege of doing this for you guys,” Randy Taylor said.

Joyce Wilson, one of the volunteers at the center, also had a table set up where youth and parents could come to get information on the effects of drugs, alcohol, cigarettes and smokeless tobacco.

When the half pipe was finished the youth put on their helmets and grabbed their skateboards.
