Speech and Hearing Screenings

The Emery School District conducts annual speech and hearing screening to identify students who might need further evaluation of their speech or hearing. Students who fail the initial hearing screening will be given a re-test in three to four weeks. Screening is scheduled with the schools involved and takes place anytime during the school year. District Speech-Language Pathologist administers the tests. All district preschool, kindergarten, 1st grade, new students and any referrals will be screened for hearing. Pre-kindergarten students will be screened during kindergarten registration and 3rd grade students will be screened for speech only. Museum of the San Rafael announces reception in honor of Peter L. A. Goss

The Museum of the San Rafael in conjunction with the Emery County Historical Society is pleased to announce a reception in honor of Peter L. Goss, Ph.D.
Peter L. A Goss is an architectural historian and documentary photographer at the University of Utah’s College. Peter has undertaken a rephotography project in which he tracked down a number of original houses and rephotographed them with today’s occupant’s standing before them. Goss has written extensively on historic architecture in Utah and is the co-author of Utah’s Historic Architecture, 1847-1947.
The original photographs were George Edward Anderson’s, one of Utah’s most prolific late nineteenth and early twentieth century photographers. His collection of nearly 15,000 of his glass plate negatives reside in the L. Tom Perry Special Collections at the BYU Lee Library.
Goss’s exhibition will contain three homes from Emery County including the J.W. Seely and John Y. Jensen house both in Castle Dale and the Bishop Oveson house in Cleveland.
The reception will be held on Oct. 24, at the Museum of the San Rafael at 7 p.m.

Huntington Library

Come check out the Huntington Library. We have some fun programs going on such as pre-school story time. Each week we tell stories and make a craft. On Halloween we dress up and tell scary stories and at Christmas we make a special craft. Our last story time theme was princesses and princes. We read Bubba the Cowboy Prince by Helen Ketteman and The Very Smart Pea and the Princess-To-Be by Mini Grey and the children made crowns.
The Library also has a junior book club for elementary school students on Wednesday’s after school. Every week the kids tell about a book they have read or are reading and we then read a book together as a group. We are currently reading The Tail of Emily Windsnap by Liz Kessler.
Don’t forget to stop by the Library for story time on Fridays at 10 a.m. and junior book club on Wednesdays at 11:30 a.m. Hope to see you there.
