
FFA team visits national stock show

Emery FFA went to Denver for four days in January on an invitational trip with the Monticello FFA chapter.
While their members attended the Coors beer factory, the Denver zoo, and the National Western Stock Show and rodeo. While it was fun, it was also proved to be an educational trip.
At the Coors factory students learned about the agriculture involved in making beer and realized that no matter where you go or what you do agriculture plays an important role in everything around you.
The main purpose for attending this stock show was for the chance for students to see what standards of breeding are placed on the different breeds and the difference between practices in Emery County and a large national
Speech and debate team compete at region

The Emery High School Speech and Debate team competed in the Region 8 Speech and Debate tournament against Carbon High School and Juan Diego Catholic High School on Feb. 22-23.
Four competitors or teams from each school were allowed in each event. The first night the debate events, Student Congress, Public Forum, Lincoln Douglas, and Policy, took place. Emery competed in Student Congress, Public Forum, and Lincoln Douglas. The second day the speaking events, Spontaneous Argumentation (Spar), Extemporaneous, Impromptu, and Oratory, took place. Emery competed in all of these categories.
From Emery, Kaitlin Potter took first place in Impromptu, Katherine DeBry took third place in Impromptu, Amanda Ewell took third place in Oratory, Dory Peacock took second place in Spar, Casey Wood took second place in Student Congress, Courtney Reynolds took third place in Student Congress, and Nicole Smith and Kameron Stilson took third place in Public Forum.
All those who placed at region qualify to compete at state speech and debate March 7-8, along with those in debate events who won at least two rounds, which were Dory Peacock and Jordan Sanders in Public Forum and Katherine DeBry in Lincoln Douglas.

Bastian is also in the Signature Circle, an elite group that only six Key Bank tellers in Utah belong to. Bastian has been an employee with Key Bank for the past 13 years.
