Lady Spartans greet new year with a win over Springville

The Lady Spartans basketball team greeted the first game of the new year with a win as they traveled to Springville on Jan. 4.

The Lady Spartans outscored Springville 12-9 in the first quarter and 20-7 to go into halftime with a comfortable 32-16 lead. Springville came back strong in the third, outscoring Emery 14-5 but in the fourth the Lady Spartans had regained control as they outscored Springville 18-11 and cruised to a 55-41 victory, improving their record to 7-4, one game behind region rival Carbon.

Jodi Robertson led all scorers with 15 points, dropping two 3-pointers. Meagan Pearson scored 10 points with one 3-pointer, Caitlin Hansen scored 9 points; Abbie Kay dropped 6; Frankie Komar scored 5 with one 3-pointer; ShiAnne Allred dropped 5; and Michonne Robertson drained 5.

Next up is a home game for the Lady Spartans as they face Juan Diego Jan. 8 at 7 p.m.

Spartans Face North Sanpete

A larger than normal crowd turned out for the Emery High wrestling team’s first region match held in the Spartan Center Jan. 3 against North Sanpete. McKay Allred pinned his opponent wrestling in the 125 pound weight class and Wade Bohn,. 189, won by technical fall. The team also went to American Fork on Jan. 5 to participate in the Caveman Tournament at American Fork High School. This week they will be traveling to compete in the Tournament of Champions held at Uintah High in Vernal on Friday and Saturday.
