Cleveland students go head to head in geography bee

Cleveland Elementary held a geography bee on Jan. 17. Principal Ed Clark and Norm Dingman conducted the event. Participants for it were Dominic Rondenelli, David Bird, Rowdy Tucker, Nicole Huntsman, Laramie Payne, Michelle Taylor and Brittany Huntsman. Brittany Hansen and Nicole Huntsman went head to head in the competition at the 4th grade level. After three rounds of questions Brittany Hansen was victorious for the first place spot.

The competition between the older students was decided after several rounds, with Jax Gardner and David Bird being the semi finalist to compete head to head. With this competition it took several rounds as these two young men were both knowledgeable and determined. At the end of the rounds of questions, Jax Gardner won the top spot and became first place winner.

New teacher goes by the numbers at Emery High

Josh White is a new math teacher at Emery High School.

Although he has only been teaching at the high school for a few weeks he spent his own high school years here and it was when he attended CEU that he decided on becoming a math teacher.

He went on to school at BYU and while there he accomplished a number of things: Speaking in two conferences, one of which was in Las Vegas, completing three different research papers and five different research projects and then finally having one of his own articles published in Philosophy of Mathematics Education.

Canyon View honors its Top Cat Achievers

Each quarter Canyon View Junior High holds a Top Cat awards ceremony. To be recognized as a Top Cat students must shine in accelerated reading, citizenship, honor roll (3.5 or better), attendance and service points.
The program is sponsored by Emery Telcom and through funds given to the school, prizes and awards are then purchased to reward the students for their accomplishment.

Principal Larry Davis, Coach Doug Mecham and Roma Brotherson conducted the events of the day. Davis and Mecham handed out the certificates and as each student was called they came forward to receive their certificate and to select a prize. There were 84 eligible participants this quarter: Kailey Allen, Randy Allen, Kenna Allred, Sharamie Atwood, Kittyara Barnes, Auminee Bennett, Jaecee Bird, AJ Borba, Alyssa Boren, Kimberly Bowman, Janel Brinkerhoff, Amanda Burnside, Olivia Burton, Colton Clement, Tyrell Clement, Colten Collard, MaKayla Copinga, Taylor Cox, Ashlin Daley, Polson DeMott, Gabriela Duran, Sydni Ekker, Tanner Ewell, Kelcy Faimalo, Colton Fasselin, Jace Fausett, Spencer Fehlberg, Erica Flores, Chet Funk, D’Lee Gardner, Erin Gordon, Jaden Gordon, Jake Gordon, Aliea Gressman, Jessica Guymon, Tice Guymon, Savahna Hall, Shantelle Hansen, Talin Hansen, Alan Hill, Jesse Hofstetter, James Holland, Kenden Huff, Ashley Hunsinger, Jaiden Huntington, Jessi Jennings, Jolynn Jennings, Kylee Jennnings, Ky Jensen, Leedan Johnson, Carly Juggert, Joshua Justice, KC Kofford, Kyann Kofford, Brady Larsen, Myrka Lema, Joseph Marshall, Brandon McCandless, Nicole McCandless, Nathan Mecham, Taylor Miller, Tealan Miller, Kenlyn Nielson, Zayda Olivas, Brandon Oliver, Wyatt Oveson, Teaira Penman, Rikki Rhodes, Tyler Pulli, Laurel Roundy, Mikah Sacco, Lance Sitterud, Nick Stoddard, Alexis Stokes, Kaitlyn Thomson, Bailey Tucker, Brandon Tucker, Sydney Tuttle, Tia Van Wagoner, Jordan Ward, Taylor Weihing, Paden Wells, Shawnee Westenskow, Tiana Young.

The five students receiving top honors were: Tice Guymon, Wyatt Oveson, Kailey Allen, Erin Gordon and Jaecee Bird.

After the certificates were handed out, Brotherson then held the bingo game part of the day. Winners there were: Brandon McCandless, Nathan Mecham, Kimberly Bowman, D’Lee Gardner and Chet Funk won the blackout bingo. Each student also placed their name in for drawings that were held intermittently thru out the event for prizes.
