Fit for the New Year

Judi Bishop

With all the talk of how obese we are as a nation in the new year many people have made getting fit a priority.
With those New Year’s resolutions still fresh on everyone’s minds, people are coming together to help motivate each other towards getting fit.

If you had as one of your resolutions for this year to get a healthier you, the Curves in Castle Dale is for the ladies. They are oriented for not just the young and trim, but for all ages to lose those unwanted pounds and inches and tone up and feel better both physically and mentally.

Cathy Sitterud is the manager of the facility located at 507 East Main. Dana Montgomery and Mari Peacock are the assistants who help members meet their goals.

There will be a membership drive in March in conjunction with the food bank. With a bag of groceries brought in one can receive a discounted membership fee. The food items brought in will go to the food bank to fill its coffers.

“I wanted to improve myself, both inside and out, and felt comfortable here with other women with the same goals,” said Sylvia Nelson of Huntington.

Elaine Hatch said working out, “has made me feel better and doesn’t make me feel strained.”

Coralee Ouzts commented, “I joined to improve my back and muscles, as I have scoliosis. I can tell a difference and I am not as sore as with other programs I have tried.”

In Huntington a long-time gym continues to help men and women reach their fitness goals. Operated by Brent Ungerman, his fitness center has moved around a bit over the years, but the goal to help provide fitness and strength training to members remains the same.

Ungerman began his body health plan in 1973 and has never stopped. He put together his first karate classes in 1978. His goal and desire at that time was to help others appreciate and maintain a healthy body and mind.
He offers classes in karate, pump class, kick boxing and cardio- kickboxing. Pilates is taught by Linda Soepanel. Yoga classes will soon be returning as well.

Also available is a variety of strength training equipment, from free weights to cardio machines. Instruction is available for proper use of the equipment.

Ungerman is a black belt in karate and has competed in many competitions over the years. Cheryl Ungerman works along side her husband to make their place of physical fitness a warm, safe environment.
Ungerman’s fitness center is located at 106 North Main in Huntington and you can reach them by calling 687-9317.
